Long Case (Grandfather) Clocks

A classic, and particularly fine quality, early 19th century, King George III period, Scottish mahogany cased, "Long-Case" "Grandfather" clock by John Thomson, of Edinburgh, a listed maker and shown as working 1794-1814. The front movement brass plate, of the "eight-day" bell striking movement, has his initials JT chased and engraved into it with the number 37 (possibly his thirty seventh clock). Standing some seven feet tall, the fine quality mahogany case, with long door, has fruit-wood stringing, and a pediment base. The trunk has fluted quarter columns, and the white painted dial has black Roman numerals, sub-seconds dial and attractive blued steel arrow head hands. A fine clock of small proportions, in excellent condition, fully restored in our on site workshop and sold with a two year warranty. A classic, English 18th century, brass dial, mahogany cased, "Farmhouse" "Eight-day" longcase clock (Grandfather Clock) made by John Harvey of Weymouth (County of Dorset) a listed maker and shown as working 1760-1791. The plain mahogany case, of fine colour and patination, has beautiful and classic proportions, having a flat top hood, long door, and skirted base. The square flat brass (12" square) dial, has black Roman numerals, leafy and scroll engraved decoration to the dial, a seconds hand and a calendar aperture. The "eight-day" movement strikes the hours on a bell, and is driven by two large weights. This clock is a fine and classic example of an English 18th century long-case Farmhouse clock. Height overall is six feet ten inches.

A classic, English late 18th century period, brass dial mahogany cased eight day long-case (Grandfather clock) clock by Nathaniel Upjohn of Plymouth, a listed maker. The flame mahogany case inlaid with Sheraton shell inlay and Prince of Wales plume to the base, has a break arch hood with brass ball and finials. The brass break arch dial with silvered chapter ring, gilded brass spandrels, and a calendar aperture. The "eight day" movement strikes the hours on a bell. A high quality 8-day mahogany cased, brass dial 18th century English AUTOMATA long-case, "Grandfather" clock by WILLIAM NIXON of LINCOLN, a listed maker and shown as working c1765. The fine quality "London style" pagoda top case, standing some 7 feet 9 inches tall, has a long beaded door, pediment base and a blind fret to the Pagoda top. The Pagoda top is pegged on and can be removed easily at will. The break arch brass dial has silvered chapter ring, gilded brass spandrels, seconds dial, calendar aperture, and to the dial arch is automata of "Old Father Time" rocking to and fro. A very fine and high quality mid-18th century English long-case clock. Sold fully restored, with a two year warranty.
